Another St Petersburg Fiscal Discovery

Back in July 2011, I wrote about a printing plate variety on the St Petersburg Police District Fiscals of 1883 (imperforate) and 1901 (perforate). I showed that on the 3 kopeck the same printing plate was used in 1883 and 1901, since the plate error (Roman "N" instead of Cyrillic "I" in "PRIGOROD") occurs both in 1883 and 1901 printings.

Now I have made a more interesting discovery. In the picture above, you can see the same error on the imperforate 15 kopeck of 1883. A normal stamp is shown for comparison.

That implies that the SAME plate was probably used for ALL values, and that the values were inserted into the plate as plugs. So it should be possible to find the "N" plate variety on ALL values, both perforate and imperforate.

Today I can only find this 15 kopeck in my stock.

Happy hunting! Please tell us if you find this variety on other values!
